8 Kickstarters we love right now

It's no secret that The Roost took flight thanks to 2,448 of the most distinguished (and ergonomic) souls on Kickstarter. We loved Kickstarter before our launch so you can imagine how we feel about them now. As a matter of fact I penned a sonnet in tribute.

"I love Kickstarter without knowing how, or when,or from where. I love Kickstarter simply, without problems or pride: I love Kickstarter in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close."

We keep an eye out for the brilliance coming up through the local and editor picks channels; every now and then we back a campaign. Here's some safe Kickstarter bets for your buck.

*Full disclosure, I stole that sonnet from Pablo Neruda.

2) World’s first roast-grind-brew coffee machine

Our roast-grind-brew coffee machine enables you to roast green beans on their own and therefore enables farmers to directly sell their green, raw coffee beans to you. Farmers become faces and you become a coffee changer.

3) "My Gal, the Zombie" Graphic Novel & Soundtrack

"My Gal, the Zombie" is the zombie take on my long running webcomic, Heaven Forbid.  You can read it at www.crazygoodcomics.com,with over 600 comic posts, 3 graphic novels, and many other comics!  I first did a zombie illustration of the main character, Chelsea, in January 2013 for the Red Headed Zombie awards show.  Since Chelsea is a redhead, it was a perfect fit!  The image really took off and I even won my first art award for that piece!  When I finished "Journey Into Her Story," the third Heaven Forbid GN, I wanted to do something different.  I decided to do a story using this zombie version on Chelsea, and to my surprise, it really took off!  It wasn't long before I was expanding my merchandising, selling out of the MGTZ comics, and having a ton of fun!

4) Ink Whiskey Concealable Entertainment Flask

First off, my name is Matt Cornell, inventor of the Ink Whiskey Entertainment Flask and founder of Ink Whiskey LLC. I'm always inventing new products that I want for myself, and this one in particular was special to me. Its so fun, so nostalgic, and it surprises you twice; once with the parody label and again with being a hidden flask. As someone who was raised on these video games, I absolutely love the whole concept. Everyone who's come on board the Ink Whiskey team shares that same passion and we've had a blast making this project come to life (you can find my intro's on them under the project bio section).

5) A Neon Revolution - Design Your Own Neon Light!

Design your own totally unique & stunning neon light or sign - simply choose colours & fonts online or upload artwork!

6) Decibullz: Easy and Affordable Custom Molded Earphones

I have been frustrated for years with uncomfortable earphones that wouldn't stay in my ears. So I set out to find an earphone that stayed put, felt good, and sounded great. After extensive research, I concluded that the only way to fit earphones precisely is to mold them to the exact shape of the user’s ear. Unfortunately the current custom molding process is very expensive and very time consuming. So I invented Decibullz, an easy and affordable custom molded earphone.

7) Kano: A computer anyone can make

A computer and coding kit for all ages, all over the world. Simple as Lego, powered by Pi. Make games, learn code, create the future.

8) ClearView Carbon Fiber Matte Box for DSLR and Video Cameras

Why A Carbon Fiber Matte Box?

Matte Boxes allow you to have the ultimate control of your video and film. As you know, these tools are primarily designed to control light. Our matte box gives the most control by providing you with a variety of light control options such as lens filter holders, and by using french flags to directly block light and eliminate unsightly lens flares and glare. By using matte box filters you no longer need individual filters for all of your lenses and do not need to take the time to unscrew filters between shots.

Unfortunately, traditional matte boxes can be heavy, cheaply built, or prohibitively expensive. We experienced the downfalls of operating a front heavy camera rig. The combination of having a heavy lens, front hand grips, the follow focus, monitors and worse, a heavy matte box hampers the camera operators ability to work.

With this in mind we set out to find a lightweight, durable, attractive, and affordable matte box that could meet our needs. Unfortunately we could not find any matte boxes in the market that did not compromise our three key performance factors. Existing matte boxes either offer cheap construction and limited use, or cost $1000 to $2000for similar construction and weight. That is why we are bringing to market the first, affordable carbon fiber matte box.
